Hey guys, it’s been a crazy, action packed, heart-stopping few months. You deserve better though, so we just wanted to write a little note to let y’all know we’re back on here and have tons, and I mean, tons of exciting shit to share.

To make up, here’s a video showcasing the ancient martial arts training Jason and friends used to prepare for the Hobo experience. It’s all about balance.

Hobo at Sundance

It was just announced that Hobo With a Shotgun will have its world premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

I’ve known for a couple days that our film was selected and its been so hard for me to keep it a secret. This whole journey has been an insane ride. We have been working so hard on this project for years. The idea of Treevenge came after we made the original Hobo trailer. Treevenge was our way of preparing ourselves for the crazy task of making Hobo With a Shotgun the feature film. Sundance selected Treevenge back in 2008 and gave us an honourable mention. It was our first experience at Sundance, and I didn’t expect the audience to be as crazy as they were. Our screening with Tommy Wirkola’s “Dead Snow” was like a rock concert. When the screening sold out a fight broke outside the theatre, I can remember coming out of the screening seeing broken glass and blood on the ground. It kinda felt like Dartmouth, it was crazy.

When it came time to create Hobo, so many of our friends and film community members from Nova Scotia came out and got their hands really dirty. So many of these people made sacrifices to be a part of our film. We had the best film crew in the world, Nova Scotia breeds tough film crews.

Being part of Sundance is a victory for my home. We wouldn’t have had this opprotunity if it weren’t for our crew and supporters, Telefilm Canada, Alliance, Film Nova Scotia, Whizbang Films, and especially Rhombus Media & Niv Fichman.

I’m excited to be able to sit back and watch the film with audiences and see a bunch of friends I’ve missed. But right now we still have a lot of work to do.

We will keep you up to date as we get closer to Sundance.

Back when I was an innocent child, whenever I saw a manhole cover on the street, I was convinced a group of four mutant turtles were somewhere close-by, waiting for pizza to be delivered. Unfortunately for the Hobo, there is no pizza coming, only a shitstorm of blood and guts and more blood.

Waves of Blood

Today, to make up for the recent lack of posts, we want to share with you one of the special moments from the Hobo production. As you might have seen in the trailer, there is a cut of a digger smashing a cardboard box into a bloody mess. The footage was shot outside of the production schedule, while we were trying out new ideas to add to the film.

The box was rigged with all 60 gallons of leftover blood. We only had one take, so we set up two cameras and crossed our fingers. What happened was magnificent, we had two huge blood waves squirt out towards each camera in a veritable river of gore. It went absolutely perfect.

The video below was shot right after Jason called the cut. Everyone is going wild because of how insanely well everything worked out. Most of the people you’ll see are close friends who helped make it happen.

Needless to say, the best part of film-making for us is to get to these moments. What started out as a silly gag with a one in a million chance of working out turned into something completely unexpected, and a good impromptu party as well.

Hobo With a Grindhouse Blu-Ray

Just a heads up guys that today Grindhouse finally hit stores in its original form, the way most us all got to experience it in theatres. We’re very excited to let you guys know that on the special features of the Blu Ray edition, you’ll be able to view our original Hobo With a Shotgun trailer that won the Grindhouse trailer competition. I’ve had a chance to check out the Blu Ray, and it’s amazing. Wait till you see the extended trailer cuts for Rob Zombie’s “Werewolf Women of the SS” and Edgar Wright’s “Dont”. They’re beautiful.

Today we’re deciding to honour ze Germans, seeing as it is Oktoberfest
and all. The video is more than a year old, but it’s a classic when it
comes to Hobo remakes/remixes. These guys score major points for
ingenuity and super amazing costumes. A period piece on a string budget
is no easy feat. Check it out!
