This Frequently Asked Questions page made specifically to help answer some of your more pressing queries.
1. Who is eligible to enter?
Everyone from everywhere.
2. Where do I go to enter the contest?
You will need to follow the instructions on our submit page.
3. What do I need to submit?
You will need to submit a link to an HD YouTube upload of a 2 minute original fake trailer, along with some information about who you are and what you’ve done.
4. What video format/size will be best?
Since our winner’s trailer may be placed on the DVD release, an HD [1080 preferrably] final video file is best. Formats for submission are to your discretion as you will be providing a YouTube link. Our winner will be notified and asked for the best possible lossless file format.
5. What is the most important thing for me to be worried about?
Music. You will need to have either originally scored music, music sourced from license-free websites, or have a musician give you full license for their track. There’s a lot of great musicians out there who are more than likely eager to have their tune used in your work, we just want to make sure you get the go ahead from them for publishing purposes [in case ya win]. 6. How are trailers going to be picked?
During our initial submission period, the entries will be judged by Jason, Rob and John. After the submission period is finished, the guys will pick 5 videos which will make it into the final round. At this stage, viewers will be invited to vote on the 5 videos for a period of 7 days. In other words, if you’ve made the top 5, this is where you will be calling everyone you’ve ever known to come out and vote for you. We are going to have special guest judges vote on the top 5 as well. After the voting period ends, YOU, Jason, Rob, John and our special guest judges will pick the final winner.
7. When can I submit? What is the deadline?
You can submit right now until March 31st, 2011 at 11:59PM EST.
8. When will the winners be announced?
The five finalists will be announced on April 1st, 2011. The final winner will be announced on April 7th, 2011.
9. How many trailers can I submit?
You can submit as many as you’d like, but it’d be best to focus on one. Time is tight.
10. What if I don’t see my submission on the site?
The GALLERY page is manually updated, so it may take a few hours to get up there. If for some reason your entry has been rejected [see next question], we’ll send you an e-mail and let you know. Music attribution is the most important aspect of the contest, so you gotta make sure you provide all information needed.
11. Why was my entry rejected?
There are a few possible reasons for why your entry was rejected: A) The provided PDF Submission Form was not properly completed, and is missing vital information such as a signature and proof of ID, B) Your entry wasn’t an original trailer for the competition, or a trailer for an already existing feature film. C) Proper information regarding music attribution, supported licenses, and talent releases were not submitted along with the Submission Form, and D) Your Fake Trailer features extremely offensive subject matter and language.
12. What are the qualifications for entry?
Everyone is qualified to enter, and there are no restrictions on who can answer as long as you agree to our terms and conditions.
